Summary of the 23 Things

I'm so thankful that I am at the end of exploring this web 2.0 genre. Some of my favorite experiences on this learning journey was Animoto and LiveBinder. Web 2.0 has affected my lifelong learning goal by showing me a variety of think that become a more effective educator. The only tool that I think can be taken away from the Web 2.0 is Delicious. With the exception of Delicious there is nothing different that needs to be done to improve the format of this program.

The things I have learned from this program will influence my practice as a teacher because I plan to make some of these tools apart of my curriculum. The RSS feeds and blogging is the way I plan to keep up with new developments in Web 2.0. I'm sure these two tools will be very helpful to me.

Well, until next time bloggers. Be creative. Sure helpful information. Be responsible and blog on.

Thing #23

Concerning Creative Commons, the eample I choseto show for Learning 2.0-23Things for Teachers blog can be viewed at this site: http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Case_Studies/Flickr
If I by some chance have to obtain a Creative Commons licensing in the future in order to effective as a teacher, I will make sure I going through the proper channels. I wouldn't want to be in violation of anybody's creative work.

Thing #22

I have created a binder from the web-tool called LiveBinder. The titles of my three binders are: Education, Games, and Animals.
My binder for Education can be viewed at: My LiveBinder.

The way I might use LiveBinder in my classroom is by share it with my students. I would show them how to create an account so they can organize their favorite website. I also would share websites with them that can help them study for quizes and tests.

Thing #21

My experience with the Animoto was great. I really liked create my on personal video. It was easy to do and there is a possibility that I might subscribe to Animoto. I created what I deem to be a cool video. Please check it out from this blog called My Animoto Video at the top of this blog page

Thing #20

For starters, I visited Youtube before and I'm little familiar with how the use the site. There is all kind of unique things people put onYoutube that are educational. Even though my major is history I like getting a visual experience on the geography and geology of the earth. For this blog I'm sharing two Youtube videos that I think will be good for primary and secondary schools. Both videos are animations. One of the videos is called Plate Tectonics and it deals with the convection currents under the earths mantle the moves plate tectonic. The other video is a music video called Layers of the Earth. This video take people on a musical journey starting at the earth core.

I'm pretty sure that these videos can be fun to watch for students and teacher. I definitely can see these components of Youtube as being interesting if they were applied to my library website? I would even go as far as say that students will learn more.

If you've read this blog please checkout the two videos. You won't be disappointed.

Thing #19

I am a member of a few online communities. Yes, I do find these social networks appealing to me. The most recent social network that I have find is called TeacherPop. I thing it's very interesting that APSU has this secure for professional teachers to communicate on. Creating TeacherPop was a very bright idea. I plan on  using TeacherPop in the future.

Thing #18

I had a facebook account setup prior to posting this blog. Some friends of mine suggested that I connect with them though facebook and that how I got started with social networking.

As far as being an educator goes, social networking is very important. Through social networking educators can share their thought and opinions with each other that may be helpful. Educators can also communicate with their students about homework assignments, preparing for upcoming quizes, and test.

The insights that I gained about facebook is the fact that I am able to communicate openly with everyone or privately with others.

I like that I'm able to communicate with people using Facebook. On another note, I like that I was able to recently setup a Twitter account and explore it as a new social networking site. By looking at both sites I was able to explore how differently they are setup.

Even though I'm fond of Facebook I think Twitter has the most useful features. I found that I can follow on Twiiter in ways that I cannot on Facebook. In addition, I can see classroom and school applications for these sites. If I am mistaking I think some schools do use this application already.

A list of my Facebook friends can be seen by clicking here: Facebook

Thing #17

My experience with the Del.icio.us tagging and bookmarking was interesting. I created an account, found something to bookmark and tagged it. Even though I was able to complete these steps this I consider this web tool to be a waste of time. Granted it has a way to organize what is bookmarked, entering a URL for a bookmark, tagging, and then organizing the tags is too complex.  In addition, Del.icio.us does not compete with the Favorites display on the homepage of my computer. Favorites also has a organizer so the tools on Del.icio.us is really nothing new. However, I will give it credit for one thing. It can be accessed from any computer that has internet.

Personally, I cannot see Del.icio.us as a tool that has the potential to be used in the classroom. Therefore, teachers cannot not take advantage of this social bookmarking site.

Perhaps there are sites that are better or perhaps I missed the entire point behind the purpose of Del.icio.us. Nevertheless, I do not consider this a easy to create bookmarks.

Thing #16

The start page that I chose to is Netvibes. It appealed to me more than the other start pages because it looked cool and unique. I discovered that I could go to add content and find categories with a list of things that I can add to my start page. It's a possibility that I might make Netvibes my permanent home page.

The online calendars can be useful to me. They can help put my life in a better perspective. Without calendar a person schedule can be out of order. By using one of these calendars I can plain my days, weeks, and months more effectively.

The to-do lists is helpful. Its not too much work. In fact, it can help keep a person from putting too much on them at one time. Having a to-do list can work well with a calendar because calendars can help a person split a overwhelming to-do list into separate days.

The tool that I could use and recommend to others is the start page. I found it to be the most impressive tool to use. It's an easy way to have all of your favorite web pages on one site.

Thing #15

My experience with wiki was quite interesting. It was simply. I created an account and copied and pasted something from me blog page. Like I seen in a video illustration, I would use wiki to make plans with my friends. The thing thats interesting about wiki is that people create some humorous things. I even read some humorous comments on wiki. The wiki concept help keep people connected in sharing creative ideas.

Thing #14

I setup an account with both flowchart and mind map. The flowchart tool that I chose to eplore is called Gliffy and the mind map I chose is called Bubbl.us. They are both exceptionally unique. However, I chose Bubbl.us because it looked simple and it was. With Bubbl.us, I created a small family chart that linked my family together from top to bottom or from side to side. I was also able to change the colors of the chart. On the other hand, I chose Gliffy because it looked simple as well. Gliffy allowed me to drag shapes and pictures from the categories on the left side of the page in order for me to create a  chart. I liked both Gliffy and Bubbl.us but Giffy seem to be a more advance web tool to use.

Thing #13

Zoho seems as if it is a easy accessible and time saving web-based application for people in the technology world to make good use of. I consider this to be and awesome discovery to me. I expolded some of the feather and I can see myself using this web-based application in the near future. Reading the Zoho Writer tutorial impressed with the many improved and advanced features that can be applied when using this application. The fact that I can access my documents from anywhere there is internet without a memorystick is amazing. This web-based application may or may not replace a multitude of different software versions but it will be a difinitely blessing to everyone who discovers it such as I have.

I found Google Doc to be a web based application that is also helpful to people in the technology world. Upon exploring Google Doc I was able to create a powerpoint document that I named My Google Drawing. Also, I discovered that I could download my powerpoint document in order to use more templates.

My classroom students will be able to work together using a web based application. I can put my class in small groups and give them a powerpoint assignment in which they can work on together. Through Google Doc they can share a file using the same web-based application and each student can make their own contribution to the group assignment.

Google Doc and Zoho are somewhat different to me. Google Doc seemed a little more complicated to me than Zoho. Maybe I did explore Google Doc enough but I was about to follow Zoho because of the tutorial that I was about the read. I pefer Zoho because it looked like I had more temple access and seemed the easiest to work with.

Thing #12

I expored two of Googles very useful tools. They are Google Calender Tour and Google Translate. My experience with both of these tools were good. I comprehended to them a little better than I thought. The Google Calender Tour was quite simple to do. I was able to set up an account and schedule some very important appointments that I must attend. Google Translate is something I have use before. It has over fifty different language references that can be translated. It was very useful for a spanish class that I had to take once before. Both Google tools are useful for educational purposes. One of them can help students and teachers keep track of their appointments. The other one can assist students trying to learn a foreign language.

Thing #11

The method of finding RSS feeds that I found easiest to use is the Recommended items icon. This icon did not really have any feeds that I was interested in but it was the easiest for me to use. Using the Add a subscription was not the hard either.

Google Blog Search was the easiest tool for me to use when searching for new feeds. On the other hand, I found Topix to be more confussing than the other tools. Feeds were not confussing for me to find. Although I did find that some of the sites I visited did not have RSS icons on some of my favorite sites. Nevertheless, I was able to found some others. I think RSS is very neat and refreashing for people who like to stay updated.

Thing #10

The thing that like about the RSS and newreaders is the fact that I am able to keep up with updates to my favorite website. RSS can be very useful to me as a teacher because it can help me stay posted with fresh new information that I can share with my students. Also, teachers can take advantage of RSS by using it in their classrooms. For example, they can teach from one site that has all the websites they will need instead of fumbling with multiple tabs and web pages.

Thing #9

I like generator animations. I found alot of creations. I would probably use it in my personal life to share them with family and friends. Many of the pictures are humorous and generator can difinitely help those people who need a laugh or two.

Thing #8

I can used Flickr mashup in the future are my classroom to play games with my students. I also can show them how to express their creative ideas by using Flickr mashup. I have good feeling about sharing photos online at long as they are appropriate and not intentionally offensive to anyone. It great to share images.

Cairo museum - tuts mask#6 - best shot, a photo by ollossm on Flickr.
This is a picture of King Tut's golden burial mask that was taken by Marc Ollossm. Finding this image on Flickr was simple. I looked at a few tags but I did not see a picture that interested me. Therefore, I type the word Egypt in the search and I was able to see many images representing Egypt. The link to this picture is as follows.

Thing #6

The website I choose to explore is called Vimeo. It is a social network that gives people the chose to create photos and videos that can be shared with friends and other social network users.Vimeo was one of the first site to offer HD videos and can also be downloaded by other registered Vimeo users for offline uses. It a great tool because it can provide visionalizations for learning through pictures and videos.

Thing #5

Web 2.0 is a way for people to become more acquainted  with the developing world of technology. It a way for people be creative and learn from the millions of other Web 2.0 users. Web 2.0 is a fast way for people to get involved with the technical world moving consistently around them.

Web 2.0 is definitely impacting the future direction of schools. It is a excellent learning tools for the education of students. Learning can be made much more fun and interesting for the students and teachers who involve themselves with Web. 2.0. Web 2.0 is designed to help the future of students and teachers  to advanced in the curriculums of schools.

Thing #4

Most people are very sociable. They are interested in hearing what people have to say as well as communicating their thoughts and ideas with other people. This concept of social interaction amongst communicators is an essential part of using a blog. Communicating comments on a blog is the same thing as having a non-verbal conversation and opinions matters. People reading comment want to hear both the positive and negative responses of others. The truth is that most people appreciate hearing comments about their blogs whether it is destructive or constructive criticizism. People feel a sense of value about themselves and their thoughts when what they say is analyzed respectfully. Therefore, blogging helps people communicate and share old and new ideas with other bloggers. In addition, respectful commenting helps all bloggers feel  that posting their blogs was worth the effort.

An important point I read about commenting was how they should be meaningful and important. It talked about how people should write comments that are meaningful to them. This makes alot of sense because it assures the blogger that they are reading a sincere response and also that their blog was valued.

Another important point addressed being afraid to comment on blogs. It basicly said that beginner are often afraid to share their thoughts and ideas. On the contrary, beginner should get use to sharing their ideas about what they think of other people blogs or comments because they might be sharing some need to know information. Like I mentioned earlier, it increases the blogger's self-worth when people comment respectfully.

Valerie Shaw, Shatica Johnson, Cindy Eddleman, Tabitha Kelley, and Jessica Heatherly are the five bloggers from that I selected to read and comment on. Danyelle Money and Dillon Biemesderfer are two other bloggers outside of my group whose blogs I read and commented on. With the exception of Danyelle Money, every blogger that I chose was a random pick. However, I enjoyed reading their blogs and commenting on them.
Out of the bloggers that I chose I commented on things they blogged about such as Using RSS, Creating a Avatar, Founding photos on Flickr,  and Using the Generator. For the most part, I agreed with them in how they felt about their blogging experiences. I did this by picking the blogs that best interested me. I commented  mainly on the blogs in which I had mutual feelings about. Plus, the blogs I read contained ideas about blogging that I never even though of. That's what I enjoyed about reading their blogs the most.

Thing #3

Some ways that I might use a blog as a teacher is sharing ideas on how teachers can effectively assist their class when helping them engage in class participation. I would blog some helpful tips in which teachers can keep their class attention and post methods that are likely to make learning fun.

I also would use a blog  to make statements about how teachers can learn from their mistakes and become more effective teachers for future students. For example, I would blog about how teachers should revise their listen plans and evaluate more efficient ways of teaching the upcoming students.

Thing #2

I decided on a posting name and the name of my blog by creating a phrase that most people are familiar with. "Cash Money" is a phrase that grabs people attention because money usually do.

For this to be my first time creating a blog it seemed very easy. It was less time consuming than when I first setup my e-mail account. Also, it has a better display of templates than my e-mail account.

My avatar reflects my personality because I'm a person who likes to be comfortable while doing the things I enjoying doing. For instance, upon creating this avatar it is summer time and it is hot. Therefore, my avatar is expressing what I am likely to be wearing under these conditions. It also displays some things that I would probably be doing in the summer such as listening to music and being on the computer.

For my avatar I found features that I thought best described what I looked like. In doing this, I'm giving other blogger who comment on my blog page the privilege of having an idea as to whom they blogging. I did this because appearances often say alot about the character of a person.

Thing #1

I consider all of the Lifelong learning habits to be quit easy. I think Habit 4 may be the most challenging because it involves learners believing in themselves. While some learners have no problem in this area, others loose confidence they become distracted. For example, some learners may become discouraged when they compare their progress with the progress of other learners.

The thing that I would like learn by playing the Web 2.0 tools is how to explore the site more. I enjoyed setting up my blog. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. I espeically like creating the template and background of my home page.
